Ludo Objective and Basic Rules

Victory World Ludo is a race game for 2 to 4 players. Each player controls four colored tokens. The first player to move all four tokens from the yard, around the track, through the colored home path and into home wins.

Turns and dice rolls

Players take turns rolling one die. After the roll, select one of the highlighted legal tokens. If no token can legally use the roll, the turn passes according to the game rules.

Entering the track

A token in the yard needs the required entry roll, normally a six, to move onto its colored starting square. When several moves are legal, choose the token that best fits your plan.

Rule variations: Extra turns, consecutive-six handling, blocks and capture bonuses follow the controls and messages shown by the Victory World table.

MOVE SAFELY

Token Movement, Captures and Home

Board situationWhat it means
YardThe token has not entered the main track and needs the required entry roll.
Main trackMove clockwise by the rolled value along the shared route.
Safe spaceA marked square that protects tokens according to the displayed game rules.
CaptureLanding on an eligible opponent token sends that token back to its yard.
Colored home pathThe final private route belonging to the token's color.
HomeThe completed destination; reaching it normally requires an exact legal roll.

Capturing

When your token lands exactly on an eligible opponent token outside protected spaces, that opponent returns to its yard and must enter the track again.

Safe spaces

Use marked safe spaces to reduce capture risk. A token that cannot be captured there may still need to move later when no stronger option is available.

Exact home movement

A token cannot move beyond its final home position. If the roll is too large, choose another legal token or pass when the game provides no legal move.

BEGINNER DECISIONS

Simple Ludo Strategy

  • Bring out more than one token. Multiple active tokens create more legal choices and reduce dependence on a single piece.
  • Capture when the reward outweighs the risk. A capture can reset an opponent, but the capturing token may become exposed.
  • Use safe spaces. End moves on protected squares when possible, especially near opponents.
  • Spread your tokens. Keeping every token together can limit movement choices and leave your position inflexible.
  • Watch opponent range. Count how far nearby opponents can move on their next roll.
  • Advance the leader carefully. A token near its home path is valuable, but sometimes activating another token is safer.
  • Plan exact home rolls. Keep another movable token available so an oversized roll is less likely to be wasted.

Common mistakes

  • Racing only one token while leaving all others in the yard.
  • Leaving a token within easy capture distance when a safe move exists.
  • Capturing automatically without checking the resulting position.
  • Forgetting that the final home move must be legal and exact.
  • Waiting until the timer is nearly finished before reviewing highlighted moves.
